7 Requirements for Getting Admission in Pakistan Military Academy 2018

It is the dream of every Pakistani youngster to join the Pakistan military academy Kakul and become cadet, but it is not possible for everyone. The Pakistan army selection criteria for selecting an officer is very high as it passes candidates through number of screening tests in the selection phase. Only those candidates are selected who fully meet the merits and requirements of the Pakistan army.

Mostly the youngsters do not prepare themselves for different tests and exercises which they have to perform during the selection process. As your target is big, so you must have to prepare yourself hard for every stage involved in the selection process.

When it comes to join the Pakistan army, you must take it serious and prepare yourself at your best because the reward is big in the form of an army officer.

Admission Procedure & ISSB Requirements for Boys & Girls for Pakistan Military Academy 2018 

The Pakistan military academy admission opens throughout a year for the different courses. The following suggestions are for males and females who want to join the Pak army either through Long Course, Lady Cadet Course or Short Service Commission.

In the following post, I have mentioned all the procedure that will help you a lot in the selection process. 

1. Online Registration

You have to register yourself online without any fee on the official website of the Pakistan army. In turn, website will generate a registration slip for you. While going for the test on the given date, take this registration slip along with 300 rupees. You have to buy prospectus with these 300 rupees on the test day.

2. Physical Standards

The physical requirements for Long Course and for other Courses are same.

2.1. For Boys

(1) Minimum Height - 5' - 4" (162.5 cm)

(2) Weight - As per the Body Mass Index

(3) 1.6 Km Run in 8½minutes

(4) Push Ups 15 repetitions in 2 minutes

(5) Sit Ups 15 repetitions in 2 minutes

(6) Chin Ups 3 repetitions in 2 minutes

(7) Ditch Crossing

2.2. For Girls

(1) Minimum Height. - 5’ (152.4 cm)

(2) Weight - As per Body Mass Index

(3) Vision - As per PAO 11/82

(4) 1.6 Km Run in 14 minutes

3. Initial Written and Intelligence Test

This is the most important step in getting admission in PMA because in this step about 70 % of candidates fail and their dreams come to end on this very step. So, prepare yourself hard for this step.

The test will consists of MCQs.

For PMA Long Course and PMA Graduate Course, this test will be based on the questions from English, Maths, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies and General Knowledge.

For Medical Cadet Course, the test will be from English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry and for the Technical Cadet Course, this test will be from English, Maths, Physics and Chemistry or Computer Science/Computer Studies. 

Those who are going to appear after 16-year education through Short Service Commission will have questions from their graduation degree subjects along with Intelligence questions(Non-verbal/diagrammatic and Verbal questions).

4. Initial Medical tests

The successful candidates will undergo initial medical tests after 1 day or within week in the following ways. 

1) Minimum Height - 5 feet 4 inches for males and Minimum Height. - 5’ (152.4 cm) for females

2) Eyesight - 6/6 with glasses

3) Should not be color blind

4) No apparent physical defect

5) Army does not look only your weight. It checks your BMI, Body Mass Index. Boys and girls! You can check your BMI according to your height and weight from the BMI charts which are available on the internet. Moreover, BMI calculator are also available on the internet. Simple put your height and weight and it will calculate your BMI.

The BMI for males should be between 19 - 25. BMI standard for female is between ----.

6) For checking the body parts deeply, you have to go naked. They will check your genitals especially the testicles and inspect your chest whether it is over grown or suffering from some disease.

7) Measurement of Chest

The chest is examined in 2 ways during the medical checkup and you have to pass both requirements in order to get selected.

Chest Size: In this test, you have to take off your shirt and the medical officer will take the measurement of your chest with the inches tape by placing it around you back. Then he will join the two ends of the inches tape in front of your chest.

79 cm or 31.1 inches must be the minimum chest size.

Chest Expansion: For this test, the medical officer will ask you to take a deep breath so that he can measure your chest size during the expansion. Your minimum chest expansion must be 5 cm.

84 cm or 33 inches must be the minimum chest size during expansion.

5. Initial Physical tests

There are physical tests for those candidates who had already successfully passed the previous written intelligence test and initial medical tests.

5.1. Running test

The male candidates are required to run 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes during the test.

The 2 month running practice before this test will help you in getting the first spot. Do a 1 km running if you are a beginner; if you cannot run faster, make a slow run. This will increase your stamina. After 15 to 20 days, you will be able to run 1.6 km in the full gear.

The girls should start running exercise before 4 to 5 months of the first test as Pakistani girls have very delicate physique so it will take time for them to build the stamina.

5.2. Ditch Crossing and Chin Ups

After 15 to minutes of the running exercise, the boys perform the ditch crossing. After that, they have to do 3 chin ups.

This exercise is performed by hanging with the bar. You have seen many people hanging on the bar for the height increase but in this case, you have to do the chin ups.

Now, it's very hard for the beginner to do even 1 push up. So, you should first start hanging with the bar for a maximum of 1 minute daily but try to do 1 to 2 push-ups alongside. As your target is the PMA, you should start this exercise before 2 months.

After 2 months, you will be able to do up to 15 chin ups. But in an initial physical test, you have to perform just 3 chin ups in 2 minutes. So, the 2-month chin ups will help you in passing this test very easily.

Note:

This chin up exercise is also performed by girls during selection.

5.3. Push Ups and Sits up

After 15 to 20 minutes of the chin ups, the boys have to perform 15 push ups in 2 minutes followed by 15 sit ups. Measurement of chest also takes place during these tests.

The push-ups are the very best exercise to increase the chest size. If you cannot do push-ups, you should start doing push-ups now. As it is hard for the starter to do 10 to 20 push-ups daily, so he should do 5 to 8 push-ups daily.

You can do it in the morning or evening, but morning push-ups are good. After 1 week, you will be able to do 10 to 20 push-ups.

Note:

This push up and Sits up exercise is also performed by girls during selection.

The successful candidates will then receive the ISSB form and they have to apply and submit this ISSB form within 2 days. In the waiting days for the call letter, you can check ISSB test dates, date sheet and Schedule here.

Many people join the ISSB academies that are located on Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi for the preparation purpose. Avoid them! Now a days you can find all the information and guidelines for this test on the internet.

6. ISSB Test

What is ISSB? ISSB stands for Inter Services Selection Board. ISSB test consists of 4 days. The candidates arrived at the given ISSB selection center for this test. The ISSB centers are located in Kohat, Gujranwala, Quetta and Malir (Karachi). The boys and girls will undergo same ISSB.

6.1. First Day of ISSB

On the first day, there will be psychological tests. The psychological test consists of 2 different types of tests which includes intelligence & mechanical aptitude test and the personality test.

Intelligence test consists of both the Non-verbal and Verbal questions. There are a lot of websites that can help you in the online preparation of intelligence, mechanical aptitude and the personality test.

Go to these websites, and solve 80 to 100 questions every day. This will make your mind to think on all the problems.

6.1.2. Non-verbal Intelligence test

6.1.3. Mechanical Aptitude test

6.1.4. Personality test

The personality test includes word association test. There will be total 75 words and each word is shown for 10 seconds and have to make sentence from that word. Besides this, you will be shown picture and you have to make story from that picture. There will be 30 seconds for watching the picture and 3.5 mins for writing.

There will also be sentence completion questions for you in this personality test. Total 80 sentences (40 english, 40 urdu) will be there. Also, there will be some questions in which you have to convert sentences to story.

6.1.5. General Knowledge

There will also be some questions from the General Knowledge and Simple Mathematical questions in this test and you can learn these topics from the above given website link.

The General knowledge includes questions from the Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies, Sports, Countries knowledge. Learn and cram all the answers of General knowledge questions.

There are also many conventional books for the preparation of the ISSB which you can download these e books free from the above given website in the pdf format. The famous one is ISSB by dogar.

You can also buy these books from the market and prepare yourself for this test.

Those who will fail in this test will not attend the 2nd day tests. These screened out candidates can leave the center on the same first day. The passing candidates will attend the next 3 days tests.

6.2. 2nd Day of ISSB

On the 2nd day, there will be indoor tasks as well as out door tasks for you. The followings tasks are held on the second day.

6.3. 3rd Day of ISSB

On the 3rd day, there will Individual Obstacles, Command Task, Final Group Task (FGT) and
Personal Interview (Psychologist and Deputy President interview).

6.3.1. Personal Interview 

Personal Interview (Psychologist and Deputy President interview) will be the last activity of the 3rd day. This is the interview and it is considered to be the most difficult part of the ISSB by the candidates.

In the interview, the recruiter officer will ask you questions on many topics. He will ask you introduce yourself in issb interview. The most frequently asked questions are "Why you want to join army", general knowledge about Pakistan army, common sense questions, sex related questions, about your life etc. You can search all the ISSB interview questions with answers on the internet. You will find many good websites on this topic with all details.

You will also find some sites that have uploaded the notes and the past papers questions with answers.

Here are some interview tips for you. You should have good dressing sense. Be confident, Don't lie int he interview, your face expressions must be good, you must possess good general knowledge and have awareness of what is happening in the country and the world, and finally you must have leadership qualities. You can be the leader in your school sports teams or in academics.

6.3.2. Individual Obstacles

The individual obstacles include 10 different type of obstacles and each candidate has to overcome these obstacles by his own in just 3 minutes. These 10 tasks are

1. Long jump.
2. Walking over inclined small wooden planks.
3. Crawling like a monkey.
4. Waking across parallel ropes.
5. Rope climbing
6. Passing through tyre.
7. Tarzan swing
8. Tarzan jump.
9. Crossing over horizontal plank.
10. Running over inclined plank.

6.3.3. Command task

The command task is performed by a group of candidates. To perform the command task, the group of candidates are given 10 minutes.

One of the candidate is selected as the commander of the group by the Group Testing Officer. This commander then selects 3 to 4 candidates in his group as his assistants that will help him in carrying out the given obstacle/task.

6.4. 4th Day of ISSB

On the 4th day, there will be Conference and after this, all the candidates will leave for home. Some candidates are re-interviewed on this day. Pakistan army will also give the travelling allowance and the daily allowance. If someone gets injured during the ISSB test, he gets free treatment from the army CMHs.

The selected candidates will receive the recommendation letter after few days. Army does not display the list of all recommended candidates in the ISSB. Those who still did not receive the ISSB recommendation/joining letter for the year 2018, they can find whether they are selected or not, on the ISSB official website.

7. Final Medical Tests after Clearance of ISSB

The final medical takes place in the army CMHs that are located through out the country. In the final medical, you are going to be thoroughly checked up in the following ways.

1) All the test would be redone which you had undergone in the initial medical test.

2) Blood test

3) Chest X-ray

4) Urine test

5) You will visit to ENT specialist. He will check your ear, nose and throat thoroughly either they are infected from some disease or not.

6) You will visit to Surgical and Medical specialist.

7)  In the last, you have to go naked again and the doctor will check you by asking you to cough, bend over, and showing your private parts for examining purpose.

Avoid wrong things like masturbation in your life, because it will result in your elimination at this stage of selection.

Those boys and girls who are suffering from the knock knees should also take advice from a physiotherapist. Some exercises are very good for treating knock knees but you have to do these exercises for about 6 months before the first test.

Technical Interview 

This point is purely for students with graduation. In this interview, candidates are interviewed about the subjects have studied in their graduation.

For example, Software engineers are interviewed by army personnel about different subjects of software engineering. This step is not very difficult but you should prepare yourself good for this interview too.
